Leaving Hospital
Rest matters – even when you get home. It’s important that you have someone to care for you after you are discharged.
Follow up appointments
Before you leave, find out whether you require a follow-up appointment with your surgeon. If you have any problems before that appointment, contact your doctor, surgeon or the hospital immediately.
Overnight patients
Your doctor and nurse will discuss with you arrangements for leaving Boulcott. Discharges are usually completed by 11:00am. Special arrangements can be made for a later time by request, although this may involve a late discharge fee.
Day surgery patients
If you are going home on the day of your operation it is essential to have someone with you as the full effects of an anaesthetic may not wear off for 24 hours. For this reason you should not drive a car, drink alcohol, use dangerous equipment or sign any important documents for 24 hours after an anaesthetic.
