Fertility Services
Starting a family is one of the biggest decisions to make in life, yet having a child is not always easy.
Assisted Reproductive Technology – Fertility Services
Dr Andrew Murray, the Medical Director of Fertility Associates, consults from Boulcott Hospital. Fertility Associates is New Zealand’s leading provider of fertility diagnosis, support and treatment, and are dedicated to giving you the best possible chance of having a baby.
We offer a range of options for fertility treatment. From lower technology treatment such as Ovulation Induction (OI) through to high technology treatments like In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
We also offer a range of Donor Services including donor eggs, sperm and embryos, egg and sperm freezing services are also available.
Before or during treatment it is important to look after yourself and your partner. We support all of our treatment options with advice and counselling services. These can be accessed before treatment has commenced or while you are undertaking treatment.
IVF related treatments
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is useful for people with infertility issues such as poor quality sperm, endometriosis, antibodies to sperm or ‘unexplained’ infertility. There are several other treatments that are often used in conjunction with IVF when needed.
Non-IVF treatments
Often, all couples need is a little help. Rather than undertaking a complex treatment like IVF, we will try lower technology treatments such as Ovulation Induction, Intrauterine Insemination and Donor Insemination.
Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is when the genetic status of each embryo is determined before it is transferred into the uterus.
Donor services
Sometimes there are situations where donor sperm, eggs or embryo are a logical consideration when looking at Fertility Treatment.
Freezing and storage
As life and relationships can be unpredictable, freezing of your eggs, sperm or testicular tissue has become an acceptable way for men and women who may wish to keep their options open in terms of reproduction.
Surgery and Micro-Surgery
Sometimes in order to maximise your chances of conceiving surgery is required. This can include laparoscopy for the treatment of endometriosis, hysteroscopy, or surgical sperm retrieval. In addition Andrew has trained in tubal microsurgery and performs reversals of tubal ligation and vasectomies.
Surrogacy
Surrogacy is the term used where a woman bears a child for another woman. The usual indications for this are that the woman cannot bear the child because the uterus is absent or malformed.
Counselling and support
Creating a family is not only a medical matter. Infertility brings with it much emotional stress and usually invades every aspect of a person’s life.
